Advisory Councils

At the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, the Community Relations Division works with communities in South Carolina to create local Advisory Councils. Advisory Councils better help the Agency extend its reach to local communities, promote a better understanding of our services, and create partnerships at the local level.

The South Carolina Human Affairs Commission serves as a bridge between state government and local communities. Advisory Councils can be a partnership between existing groups and the Agency to share resources, provide technical support, assist in strategic planning, and to help turn local ideas into meaningful action.

The process to become an Advisory Council is simple. The first step is to reach out to the SC Human Affairs Commission to learn more about our agency, the South Carolina Human Affairs Law, and about the responsibilities of an Advisory Council. We ask that each Advisory Council maintains a minimum of three members and meets once a month.

If you are interested in learning more, please call the Community Relations Division at 803-737-7800 or email Robert Snipes, rsnipes@schac.sc.gov
