Community Relations

The Community Relations Division plays a key role in advancing South Carolina’s economic growth, job creation, and community well-being. By addressing barriers to access, we help build stronger, more connected communities, empowering individuals to contribute to an engaged and thriving workforce.

What We Do

We work to strengthen relationships across communities, including:

  • Individuals
  • Community groups
  • Local government and Nonprofits

Through collaboration, communication, and conciliation, we bring people together to resolve challenges, reduce conflict, and remove obstacles that impact:

  • Business growth
  • Workforce participation
  • Access to resources

Our Impact

Focused on local solutions to local challenges, the division promotes economic opportunity and enhances quality of life across South Carolina. Our programs support an environment where businesses can grow, and communities can prosper.

Key Services

  • Establish and support local Community Advisory Councils
  • Process non-employment complaints, including Public Accommodations and SC 1-13-90(e) investigations
  • Provide access to SCHAC training to educate communities on the South Carolina Human Affairs Law, the Equal Enjoyment and Privileges to Public Accommodations Act, and our agency’s mission and responsibilities.

Community Partnerships

Since its founding, the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission has served as a bridge between state government and local communities. We assist in establishing and sustaining Advisory Councils and partner with existing groups to provide:

  • Guidance and technical support
  • Resource sharing
  • Strategic planning assistance

Our team works closely with community leaders to identify needs, set priorities, develop programs, and plan funding strategies, turning local ideas into meaningful action.
