Statute of Limitation

Fair Housing laws require that an aggrieved person must file the complaint with the Commission within 180 days from the most recent date of the alleged discriminatory housing practice.

To file with the United States Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the aggrieved person must file within one (1) year of the date of the most recent occurrence.

To determine whether an aggrieved person filed the complaint within the statue of limitation, begin counting from the day after the date of the alleged violation to the date of filing.  Legal holidays and weekends are included.
